We're thrilled to announce that Kurma AI has received a $50,000 GPU compute grant from Nebius, providing access to cutting-edge NVIDIA H200 GPU clusters.
About the Grant
Nebius, a leading cloud platform for AI infrastructure, has recognized Kurma AI's mission to build domain-specific AI for aquaculture. The $50,000 grant provides:
- Access to NVIDIA H200 GPUs — The latest generation of data center GPUs optimized for AI training
- High-performance compute clusters — Enabling efficient training of large language models
- Scalable infrastructure — Supporting our growing model training and research needs
Impact on AQUA Development
This grant directly enabled the development of our AQUA-7B model:
- Training Hardware: 8× NVIDIA H200 GPUs
- Training Time: ~32 hours for the full fine-tuning run
- Result: A 7-billion parameter model that outperforms general-purpose LLMs by 30-40% on aquaculture tasks
Without access to this level of compute, building domain-specific models at this scale would not have been possible for a startup like ours.
Acknowledgments
Huge thanks to the Nebius team, especially Mona L. and Simone Lonchiar, for supporting our vision. Their belief in AI for sustainable aquaculture has been instrumental in getting AQUA from research to reality.
This partnership is a testament to the growing ecosystem of support for AI startups tackling real-world problems in agriculture and food systems.
